One of the things I love most about living in Chicago is the fact that, while it is a large, urban setting with it’s concrete and steel, you don’t have to go very far to get your fill of Mother Nature. One of my favorite places to spend time is Montrose Harbor. From one end you see the massive expanse of Lake Michigan, from the other, the amazing skyline of downtown.Right smack dab in the middle of all of that is the Montrose Bird Sanctuary.
Known as, “The Magic Hedge,” on any given day you’re sure to see any number of species of birds: Cardinals, Red-Winged Blackbirds, Brown Thrashers, you name it. I happened across this Bewick’s Wren while out exploring a few weeks back. Blink and you miss them, they’re so tiny and blend in so well to their surroundings so I’m so very happy to have been able to capture him in this picture. I am very happy to add it to my ever-growing collection of ornithological photos such as this one I wrote about last week.
Enjoy!
