I think one of the things I was most looking forward to with this road trip was knowing that there would be great stretches of road, in the middle of the desert, where I would be able to get out of the car and stand in the middle of the road without another car in sight.
The first occurrence was traveling from Barstow, CA to Flagstaff, AZ where I was able to get a photo of this awesome Route 66 sign painted on the road. The second came while continuing the journey towards Flagstaff, just before the CA/AZ boarder.
Today’s Photo of the Day, “The Road” reminds me of a book I read, of the same name, by Cormac McCarthy. A father and son traveling together through a post- Apocalyptic United States, rarely coming across other humans and having to battle the elements along the way. I am happy to report that my mother and I did have the creature comforts of a car, an iPod hookup and A/C (and, let’s face it, the knowledge that we would be sleeping in a hotel room that night) so it made it much easier to enjoy this beautiful landscape.
Enjoy!
