Photo(s) of the Day: What is Big, Blue and Yellow and…

…let’s you perfect your Swedish Chef imitation whenever you walk around the store pronouncing their furniture? IKEA of course!

IKEA was in the Philadelphia area, where I grew up, for most of my young adult life so I have been well acquainted with their store. Now, here in Chicago, I still can’t get over how crowded the local IKEA stores get, even at 10 am on a Tuesday!

Now, I am a huge fan of “Shop Small,” especially given I am one of those “Smalls,” however, I have always appreciated IKEAs willingness to partner with, and spotlight, independent designers and artists. (I’m also quite thrilled to have furnished my entire studio, complete with two large desks, several flat files, cabinets and two large shelving units for under $1000 ;) )

Why am I bringing up IKEA you ask?

I am happy to say that, yesterday it was made official that Tracey Capone Photography will be one of those independent artists that IKEA carries come next summer. Starting in July 2013, the photos in this post, “Cornouiller,” “Love,” and “In to the Cosmos” will be available, exclusively at IKEA in large, matted posters.

To say I am excited to see my work in a store that I have loved for years is an understatement. I truly appreciate IKEA for giving independent artists such as myself the opportunity to gain more exposure for our work and, to the folks in the store in Schaumburg, IL, please be prepared for me to hold an unveiling party when they go up. Just kidding… or am I?

I hope everyone has a great weekend! I am looking forward to holding a cookout with a few of my friends here on my herb filled deck. I hope, whatever you’re doing, you enjoy yourself!

  1. Congrats on the deal with IKEA. I love their stuff too… my office is mostly IKEA furniture. If you ever figure out when the Schaumburg store isn’t crowded I’d like to know!

    • Thank you Leslie! (I am convinced that, as long as that one and Bolingbrook, are the only two within a four state radius, it will never not be crowded ;) )

  2. Tracey, Congratulations and your photos are beautiful. It’s great to follow another Chicago artist. I don’t see too many on WP. (Also, I’m originally from a suburb of Philadelphia.)

      • Tracey, this is freaky- my brother now lives in Havertown. Do you know any Coulstons? I’m originally from Jenkintown and went to Abington High School.

      • Totally small world! No, I don’t but I haven’t been back to Havertown for a number of years as my parents moved in to the city many years ago.
