Photo of the Day- “The Uptown”

"The Uptown" - Tracey Capone Photography

Today’s Photo of the Day, “The Uptown,” holds a special place in my heart…

When I first moved to Chicago back in 1999, I had only been to the city a handful of times, mostly for business, and never had the opportunity to get out and explore too much beyond the downtown area. So, when looking for my first apartment here, while I had advice from co-workers already living here, I was flying a bit blind.

Photo of the Day- “Patina”

"Patina" - Tracey Capone Photography

Travel down the Grand Canal in Venice, Italy, take a gondola ride down the back canals, and you are sure to see some of the most beautifully rustic, years old architecture you will find anywhere.

Today’s Photo of the Day, “Patina” is no exception. Can you imagine coming home to this beautiful indigo door everyday? The wonderful green and rust colored patina formed by years of exposure to the elements? Some might look at this and say dilapidated, they might say that it could use a good coat of paint… to me it’s stunning just the way it is.

Have a wonderful weekend, wherever you are!

Enjoy!

Photo of the Day- The Venetian Garden

"The Venetian Garden" - Tracey Capone Photography

I’m so happy to be a photographer for many reasons, one of which is that, if I can’t remember certain aspects of a trip, I can always go back and revisit it through my photos. Good thing too because halfway through the last trip to Italy I came down with one of the worst flu bugs I have had in quite some time and was basically walking around in a haze. (possibly in part to the wonderful over the counter medications that they sell in Italy… perhaps a bonus to not having an FDA?)

Given the fever was wreaking havoc on my head, it’s been wonderful to be able to go back through pictures from the visits to Rome, Florence and Venice and relive some of what I missed at the time. (thankfully, fevers don’t prevent the shutter finger from working)

Today’s Photo of the Day, “The Venetian Garden” is one of those photographs that really sums up the experience in Venice and helps me remember just how beautiful it was. Of course, Venice is surrounded completely by water and has canals running through it so backyard gardens that you may see in other parts of Italy aren’t really happening here. Many of the residents work with what they have, namely in using beautiful window boxes and terrace gardens to make up for what they lack in yard. I loved this arrangement against the beautiful stucco of the home and the rustic shutters.

I will definitely go back to Venice one day soon just so that I can (hopefully) walk around in a less partially comatose state but, in the meantime, I have my photographs.

Enjoy!

Photo of the Day- “Charcuterie”

"Charcuterie" - Tracey Capone Photography

I would have to say that, of any area I visit when visiting Paris, Montmartre is my favorite. Not only for the numerous rustic doors and windows I happen upon but because of the quaint little cafes, bistros and sandwich shops lining the cobblestone streets heading up to Sacré Cœur.

If you decide to visit Montmartre, your best best is to take the Metro to the district of Pigalle where you’ll find the infamous Moulin Rouge. From there, you can either take the funicular or hike up the very steep stairs from the bottom to the top (I counted 225… while they may not jive with Parisian fashion, I would recommend sneakers if you’re going to go with the latter option).

While about halfway up I was extremely jealous of those who opted to take the funicular, I would have missed out on so many of what turned out to be some of my favorite photos from the trip. That includes today’s Photo of the Day, “Charcuterie.” Just across from where I shot “The Bistro” and directly across the street from “No. 3,” I loved this quaint little sandwich shop lined with colorful bottles of Italian sodas and boasting some of the most amazing desserts I have ever seen.

Enjoy!

Photo of the Day- “Ville”

"Ville" - Tracey Capone Photography

Much like the rooftops of Paris, Parisian architecture as a whole can be picked out of a lineup without a single thought. The light beige stucco, the tall, beautiful windows and, well, French doors (go figure!), the tiny Juliette balconies usually teeming with beautiful flowers and herbs; French architecture ranks up there as one of my favorites, and I live in a city known for it’s amazing architecture.

Today’s Photo of the Day, “Ville,” was taken at dusk, somewhere near the Eiffel Tower. The architecture, combined with the waning daylight; I wanted to give the final result an almost haunting, surreal feel.

Photo of the Day- “Pathway”

"Pathway" - Tracey Capone Photography

I love the Midwest and, as many of my long time readers know (and, let’s be honest, more recent readers as well, given I mention it about once a week) , I am absolutely ecstatic to be back up in Chicago. That said, having been born and raised just outside of Philadelphia, PA, I am a Northeasterner at heart and hold a particular fondness for anything East Coast related.

As my hometown, and the entire East Coast, prepares to be hit hard by Mother Nature this weekend, in the form of a very strong hurricane (wow anyone else remember the cartoon “Wonder Twins?”), I am posting “Pathway,” my nod to one of my favorite cities, and more specifically Brooklyn, as my Photo of the Day.

To all of my East Coast readers, friends and family getting ready to batten down the hatches, stay safe and dry and please just stay indoors. (there are lots of wonderful shops on Etsy you can check out while you’re stuck inside! ;) )

Wishing everyone, all over the globe, the best this weekend!

Enjoy!

Photo of the Day- “Golden Days”

"Golden Days" - Tracey Capone Photography

Today’s Photo of the Day is “Golden Days,” a shot I took while taking a leisurely boat tour down the Chicago River in downtown Chicago. I love architectural photography; the steel and cement creating a unique artistic landscape. I have lived in Chicago for years and it never ceases to amaze me just how beautiful this city is. If you ever get the opportunity to visit the Windy City, definitely set aside some time to head down to the Lake and take in the architectural boat tour; it is well worth the time.

Enjoy!

Photo of the Day- “Watching the Time”

"Watching the Time" - Tracey Capone Photography

Taken at the Musee d’Orsay in Paris, France, today’s Photo of the Day, “Watching the Time” was one of the first photos available in my gallery and, to this day, one of my favorites. Normally I want all human life forms out of my photos :) but, in this case, I loved that the two men were standing there, looking through the transparent clock, watching time pass out over the Seine.

Those who have been reading my blog know, I hate naming my photographs, which explains why everything  is “The [insert something here]” this and that but with this one, the second I saw the shot, the name popped in to my head.

Unfortunately, as they were doing work on the museum when I was there in March, I wasn’t able to see this amazing clock but if you find yourself in Paris, a trip to the Orsay is a must and, while you’re there, head upstairs to see this amazing clock.

Enjoy!

Photo of the Day- The Walk

"The Walk" - Tracey Capone Photography 2011

Ever notice that when you’re doing something you don’t want to do you seem to have all the time in the world but when you’re doing something fun and exciting it seems like someone keeps hitting the fast forward button on the DVR of life? (a note- I’m old enough that I almost wrote VCR) As I’m running around like a crazy lady, getting ready to move in to my space at the Andersonville Galleria next week, framing up some pieces I’m donating to the American Cancer Society, fulfilling a custom order, pulling together some Etsy orders and, in between all that finding time to breathe, eat and sleep, I admit my blog got ignored yesterday.  That said, I am back with a photo of the day.

Today’s photograph, part of the “London Calling” series, is “The Walk;” a photograph of Big Ben and Westminster Bridge as seen from the other side of the Thames. I love this perspective as it makes the beautiful bridge look like it could go on forever.  While I’m not a big one on hitting all the tourist spots on my trips (I’d much rather be roaming off the beaten path) I do enjoy the area around Parliament in London. (alright perhaps not the area right around the ginormous McDonald’s near the London Eye but everywhere else).

Enjoy!

Photo of the Day- No. 35

"No. 35"- Tracey Capone Photography

Warm honey tones and pale slate grey and blues make up today’s Photo of the Day, “No. 35.” There was something so simple but so inviting about this door and, despite the closed shutter, I loved the scroll work around the window, it felt homey somehow.

Taken in Montmartre, Paris, “No. 35” is one of the latest additions to the Parisian Door Series. (speaking of which, very happy that this instant collection of doors is off to a good home in GA…I hope they love them as much as I loved taking them)

Enjoy!
