Photo of the Day: Ever Green

“Ever Green” – Tracey Capone Photography © 2012

We’re back in the warmer temps this week but, with August halfway over, and September fast approaching, I am carrying on my autumnal theme with today’s Photo of the Day, “Ever Green.” Taken at the Morton Arboretum during my walk towards their Joy Path, I loved how these tiny pinecones stood out against the grey-blue sky.

Call me nutty but photographs like this one make me look forward to my sweaters, knit hats and scarves, and inching ever so closer to putting up the Christmas tree.

Enjoy!

Photo of the Day- “Grey Autumn”

Today’s Photo of the Day, “Grey Autumn,” was taken at the Montrose Harbor Bird Sanctuary, here in Chicago, last September.  It was actually a pretty dreary day and I loved the pop of orange against the grey sky so I did want to play that up a bit with some texture. While I’m not one to use a lot of texture in my post processing, I really liked how this grey texture gave the robin center stage and almost made him glow.

Enjoy!

Photo of the Day- “Off in the Distance”

Can you tell I’m ready for Fall? We had wild and crazy storms here last night that I was told are going to make it cooler here in the Windy City but we’ll just wait and see. If by “cooler” they mean only a few degrees then it’s still going to be as hot as the face of the sun. ;)

Today’s Photo of the Day, “Off in the Distance” was taken last Fall here in Chicago, in the woodlands of the Cook County Forest Preserve,  and it immediately brings to mind cooler temperatures, my favorite sweater and the crisp fall leaves.

Enjoy!

Photo of the Day- First Leaf of Fall

"First Leaf of Fall" - Tracey Capone Photography

I don’t know about you but I am so very over this heat. Living in Chicago, there comes a point somewhere around the end of February, beginning of March, where I start saying the same thing about the cold and snow (especially when we get hit with a blizzard like we had this past year) but it starts pretty early on when it comes to the heat. Now, I don’t mind if it’s in the high 60s, low to mid 70s, not at all… that’s actually quite wonderful. What I do mind is the temperature of 85 degrees with a heat index of “the surface of the sun.”

As I am truly looking forward to those first signs of Autumn and getting past this wretched heat, I thought I would make today’s Photo of the Day, “First Leaf of Fall.” The beautiful crispness and the crimson and ember tones of the leaf, which I came across while walking along the Lake, reminds me that this too shall pass and, soon enough, we’ll be in one of my two favorite seasons of the year, Fall. (And of course check back with me in March when I’m sure I’ll be posting a, “Chicago winter is horrendous” Photo of the Day ;))

Enjoy!
