Silver Needle, White Tea… a Treasury

antique parcel post scale by lacklusterco

My latest treasury takes it’s name from a rare tea, also known as Yin Zhen, a tea famous for its subtle taste, pale infusion, and extraordinary purity. It was a well guarded secret of the Chinese emperors and a rare delicacy in the West. It was reserved for the imperial family until only a few decades ago when it became available to the public. The sweet, pale buds of the Silver Needle tea are picked less than one month during the year, some time between late March and early April.

While I didn’t build the treasury around the name, I thought the description of the tea could also describe the finds: subtle, pale, extraordinary. Please take a peek at each of the stores… you won’t be sorry.

Enjoy!

Photo(s!) of the Day- “The Perch” Series of Three Metallic Prints

Perch Series Framing

From "The Perch Series"

Having found a lab who caters to professional photographers and who does an amazing job with metallic prints, I wanted to highlight one of my favorite metallic print sets in today’s post.

The Perch Series, three prints of a single bird I came across in San Francisco’s Botanical Gardens, look absolutely stunning on metallic paper. As mentioned in previous posts, metallic paper has been described as “chrome on paper” as it brings out an almost three-dimensional quality in a photograph.

I have framed these three beautiful prints up in three handmade, handmilled blue frames by David Arnold of DA Custom Frames. All three prints are available in my online gallery in sizes anywhere from 4×4 all the way up to 30×30 as well as available individually. Check out my online gallery for many more fine art metallic and photographic prints, as well as my custom services like framing and gallery wraps.

The world is such a busy place these days; everyone scrambling to meet busy schedules, make ends meet, and so on and so forth,  sometimes it’s easy to forget to thank the people who help us along the way.

While I’d like to think that my work can stand solidly on it’s own, it definitely doesn’t hurt to have people like David Arnold within emails reach. David, of DA Custom Frames, out of the Atlanta, GA area, supplied me with five custom frames for my upcoming showing at Festively Local next weekend.

As soon as I saw the photos of his work on Etsy I knew I would be placing many an order with him for a long time to come. David offers a number of hand made, hand milled, hand finished frames in a variety of styles in his shop on Etsy. The best thing? Any of the frames listed can be made in any size, just reach out to him. David is the epitome of professionalism and good customer service and is extremely easy to work with. His craftsmanship is second to none and you can tell he takes great care with each piece he creates.

Even before I opened the box, I could smell that always wonderful, ever familiar scent of a handcrafted wood piece. When I pulled them out of wrapping, I couldn’t wait to mat and frame my photos. David is a true artisan and I give him many thanks for creating pieces that so wonderfully frame my work.

Attached are a few photos of the end result. Enjoy!
