Photo of the Day- “Trenitalia”

"Trenitalia" - Tracey Capone Photography

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!  I myself had a very busy weekend. Aside from working on getting everything ready for the Galleria, details were worked out surrounding my being a part of a really fun shop called Transistor, here in Chicago. Currently in Andersonville, but moving to North Center at the end of the month, they are, according to their own description, “equal parts art gallery, bookstore, CD and record shop and specialty audio.” Really excited to be a part of such a great place. If you’re in the area, swing by starting August 5th!

But I digress… you’re wondering about the Photo of the Day aren’t you? Today’s photo, “Trenitalia,” is an abstract shot of one of the beautiful teal and creme colored train we took to Venice. For those who don’t know anything about that crazy trip, about halfway through, I came down with one of the worst flu bugs I have ever had and spent the second half of the trip burning a high grade fever through Florence and Venice.

So there my mother and I are (my mother, who I might add, deserves to be canonized for dealing with me as I am no picnic while sick), sitting in the Santa Maria Novella train station in Florence, waiting for the train to Venice;  me basically slumped over and “dying” (I’ll give you, slightly dramatic, but it felt like it at the time) when suddenly the crowd parts giving way to what has now become one of my favorite shots from the trip.

Enjoy!

Off to a Good Home- in Italia!!! “A Day by the Water”

I am very pleased to be sending one of my favorite prints, “A Day by the Water,” off to one of my favorite countries, Italy! The print will be heading off to Florence, Italy, a beautiful city I’ve had the pleasure of visiting twice and can’t wait to visit again.

“A Day by the Water,” is a vintage- inspired photograph of the Tybee Island Lighthouse in Savannah, Georgia. I was immediately struck by the sharp contrast of the beautiful red of the roof against the bold greenish blue of the rest of the lighthouse and couldn’t wait to work with this photo. Aged with a vintage feel, I wanted this print to take on  dreamlike quality. Imagine a child, sitting in the back seat of his parents car, looking out at the lighthouse on a beautiful, sunny day, excitedly awaiting the visit to the beach. Printed on amazing metallic paper, this photo takes me back to my own childhood and I’m so very happy to share it with others.

This, and other prints are available at my website. Please feel free to stop by!

Ciao!

Photo of the Day- “Palazzo”

Today’s photo of the day, “Palazzo” is an abstract shot taken in Florence, Italy.

I find that many European cities have very distinct architecture, specific to that city, which make it easily identifiable without even knowing which city you’re looking at. Florence, and most Italian cities, are no exception. Most of the architecture in Florence seems to be encased mostly in stucco which, if I’m not mistaken, harkens back to the early twentieth century Italian Renaissance where Venetian plaster and stucco were prevalent.

This shot was taken outside of the Accademia, where the statue of David is housed. I love the old, weathered shutters in this shot and how the abstract lines of the buildings draw your eyes down from top left to bottom right. The abstract feel of the shot reminds me a bit of “Line of Sight” previously featured here

This, and many other shots from Italy and my other travels, can be found in my online gallery found here.

Enjoy!

Photo of the Day- “Firenze”

Anyone that knows my collective works as a photographer knows that the majority of my inspiration comes from my trips to Italy. While I’ve traveled to many beautiful countries in a relatively short period of time, my two trips to Italy were two of my favorites.

There is so much to love about Italy, the people, the food, the sites, the sounds; taking it all in can be overwhelming at times but equally as amazing. Last year, I traveled from Rome up to Venice via train with visits to Pompeii and Florence. This last stop is where my photo of the day hails from.

“Firenze” is an abstract shot of a Trenitalia train waiting in the station at Firenze Santa Maria Novella, the train station in the heart of this beautiful city. I love the intense red of the front light against the green-blue of the train body. I was extremely pleased with the final outcome and how the light was just right bouncing off the side of the train. While abstract in nature, it’s not so abstract that you can’t see that it’s a train; I was very pleased with this balance.

This metallic print is available in my online gallery along with many others from my Italy series.
