Photo of the Day- “Line of Sight”

"Line of Sight" - Tracey Capone Photography

Today’s Photo of the Day, “Line of Sight” is one of the original pieces in my gallery and, to this day, one of my favorite. Taken in Dublin, Ireland, it is an abstract photograph of the Temple Bar area as seen from across the River Liffey. You wouldn’t know it from this rather calm picture but it was a rather wild and crazy day in Dublin that day as it was shot on St. Patrick’s Day just after the parade. A sea of people, and many pints of Guinness, are just on the other side of those buildings; it was rather nice to be able to step away from it all and capture this calm shot of the city.

Wishing everyone a fantastic weekend! I myself am looking forward to some cool but sunny weather tomorrow and getting out with my camera to get some new shots of Chicago. Stay tuned!

Enjoy!

Spotlight On… Modish Vintage on Etsy

Those who have been following my blog know that I’m in the process of redecorating my “new”ish apartment with a mix of fun vintage finds and new, more modern pieces such as my sofa from Room & Board.  Decorating doesn’t have to be expensive. Spend the bulk of your decorating budget on getting a few really well-made, classic pieces like a sofa and some tables. Pair them with some fun, eclectic vintage finds and you don’t have to break the bank to live in style!

With the warmer weather approaching, I’m looking forward to heading out to the Kane County Flea but in the cold, blustery off-season (ok let’s face it… all year long) I scour Etsy for great vintage additions to my place.

Recently I came across a wonderful shop on Etsy, Modish Vintage, hailing from the Pacific Northwest and just had to spotlight it. Take a peek at the cool, vintage shoe mold that I purchased from Modish Vintage a couple of days ago. Isn’t it fun? It adds just the right pop of color and goes quite nicely with the distressed red box I recently added as well.

I can’t say enough great things about the awesome customer service Modish Vintage provides and certainly can’t wait to add more of their items to my collection.

Check out more of their items here.

“Shutterbug” Three Fine Art Photo Blocks of Vintage Cameras

"Shutterbug" - Tracey Capone Photography

[Relatively] new to the shop is “Shutterbug,” a series of three fine art photo art blocks of three wonderful vintage cameras.

If you’re not familiar with the photo blocks, either check out my previous post here or read on!

The photographs are professionally printed on premium archival paper. They’re then adhered, using a special glue, to wood blocks stained in a beautiful Provincial Walnut. The entire block is then double coated in a non-toxic veneer that doesn’t harm the photograph and actually protects them while sealing the bond between them and the block.

The veneer brings out the excellent colors in the photograph as well as gives the overall block an organic, textured feel.

Shutterbug features three of my new prints, “Camera Love No. 2, 3 and 4″ from the Camera Love series. These fun photo blocks make a great gift or a wonderful addition to your own decor!

Check them out here and don’t forget to take a peek at all the other photo blocks I have available here in my online gallery.

Enjoy!

“Sea Urchin #2″ – New to the Gallery

Sea Urchin #2- Tracey Capone Photography

New to my gallery is one of a series of three prints which I’ll introduce over the next few days, “Sea Urchin #2,” a soft-focus, macro shot of two beautiful sea urchins perched atop on another.

When I created this, I immediately imagined a beach house or a beach themed room (and, of course, at the same time wish I had a beach house) with calm, soft colors and lots of whites and beige.

This print, as well as “Urchin #1” and “Droste” are available in my shop now both in print form and as a new art block set, “She Sells Seashells.”

Enjoy!

New to the Gallery- Fine Art Photo Wood Blocks

I’m really excited about the latest offering in my gallery…fine art photo wood blocks made from reclaimed wood.

I start by staining up in a beautiful provincial walnut and adhering my work to the block with premium archival glue. The entire piece is then varnished in a semi-glossy, non-toxic varnish to protect the entire piece.

Right now, the blocks are available in 4×4 and 5×5 size and sold as sets of three or as single blocks. Each block has a wonderful keyhole on the back making them ready to hang, no hardware required. I’m very excited to say that in the next week I’ll also be offering 5×7, 8×8 and 8×10 blocks.

Be on the lookout, this month, for a tutorial on how to create your own wood blocks with your family photos. It’s a fun and beautiful way to preserve memories!

You can find my fine art photo wood blocks here, in my shop.

Meet the Artist- Amber Alexander of amberalexander at Etsy

"Nuthatch" by Amber Alexander

If you’ve had your eye on the treasuries I’ve been posting, no doubt you’ve seen this month’s “Meet the Artist” artisan, Amber Alexander, included in some, dare I say, most of them. I’m not the only one…If you’re on Etsy on a regular basis, you’ve also seen her work on the front page time and time again, and for just cause… it’s wonderful.

I’ll admit, I have always wanted to be able to paint; as far back as I can remember. While I’m your typical, right-brainer in every other way, alas it has never been. (I’m left-handed, isn’t that supposed to be a guaranteed trait of my people; excelling at creativity in all forms??) I’ve even gone so far as to buy all of the necessary tools only to find out that, at best, my work can be qualified as bad abstracts. So, I’ll stick with photography and design as my creative outlets…

This is one of the many, many reasons I love Amber’s work. Whimsical, colorful, sweet and simply divine, Amber’s work never fails to make me smile (and dare I say the teeniest bit jealous while I’m attempting to paint a dog…errr monkey… um maybe it’s a worm??).

So, without further adieu, meet Vermont’s own Amber Alexander after the jump…
