Off to a Good Home- in Italia!!! “A Day by the Water”

I am very pleased to be sending one of my favorite prints, “A Day by the Water,” off to one of my favorite countries, Italy! The print will be heading off to Florence, Italy, a beautiful city I’ve had the pleasure of visiting twice and can’t wait to visit again.

“A Day by the Water,” is a vintage- inspired photograph of the Tybee Island Lighthouse in Savannah, Georgia. I was immediately struck by the sharp contrast of the beautiful red of the roof against the bold greenish blue of the rest of the lighthouse and couldn’t wait to work with this photo. Aged with a vintage feel, I wanted this print to take on  dreamlike quality. Imagine a child, sitting in the back seat of his parents car, looking out at the lighthouse on a beautiful, sunny day, excitedly awaiting the visit to the beach. Printed on amazing metallic paper, this photo takes me back to my own childhood and I’m so very happy to share it with others.

This, and other prints are available at my website. Please feel free to stop by!

Ciao!

Going to a Good Home- “Patina”

The latest piece heading off to a good home is “Patina” part of my “Paris, Venice & Beyond” series. This print can also be found as part of the, “Day in Venice” set.

Taken in Venice, along the Grand Canal, the blue door was what caught my eye first. If I owned a really cool, old home, there are a list of must-haves, one of which is an amazing door in a vibrant color. Most of Venice’s homes along the canal not only have amazing colors but also this beautiful patina from being along the water. Color abounds in Venice, not only along the Grand Canal but along the back canals as well. Given my love of color, I can only imagine seeing such beauty on a daily basis.

Let’s try something new… how about a poll?

“Patina” as well as the “Day in Venice” print set can be found here in my online gallery.

Enjoy!

New Creation- The Monochrome Botanical Series

"Monochrome 1- Gardenia"

As far back as I can remember, I have loved black and white photos for their understated beauty. Beauty aside however, as I’ve discussed in earlier posts (and thus won’t bore you again with all the scientific mumbo jumbo about brain synapses and color assignment), I believe it’s also due to the lack of color which forces your mind to process the photograph in a way much different from a color photograph.

I especially love monochrome botanical photographs. It’s  easy to look at a picture of an orange poppy and say it’s beautiful, however it’s mostly due to the beautiful orange color nature provided it. Remove that color and you’re forced to look at the lines and curves of the flower itself and, quite frankly, in my mind, Mother Nature is a true artist.

My Monochrome Botanical Series is an ever-growing series of many of her best works. I am lucky enough to come across so many beautiful subjects in my daily life, that I’m excited about what’s to come. The series, as well as others, can be found here, in my online gallery.

Enjoy!

pssst– Guess what? I have exciting news coming… be sure to check back in for an upcoming post in the next few days!

New Creation- “The Red Balloon”

Today’s new creation is my nod to the movie, “The Red Balloon.” Filmed in the Menilmontant neighborhood of Paris, France in 1956, this Oscar award-winning short film, directed by Albert Lamorisse,  is about a little boy who spots a large, red helium balloon on his way to school.

Shot in Through the Viewfinder style, this pop of red against the monochrome of the buildings makes this one of my new favorite pieces. (hint… there’s a lot more where this came from)

Come to think of it, this could ALSO be my homage to the 80s song, “99 Luftballoons” by Nena. Wait, don’t tell me you aren’t a fan of 80s songs?? :)

Enjoy!

New Creations- “Ville” and “The Bank”

Two new additions to my paris.rome.and.beyond series are “Ville” and “The Bank.” Both prints are available separately but also pair well together.

Both were shot at dusk in Paris, one along the banks of the river and the other while walking through the charming areas just off the banks. I’ve layered them to give an aged, almost vintage, feel. I love playing with depth of field in my shots and these two are no exception.  I love the aged, almost “ghostly” feel of both.

I’ve added a few new prints from Paris to the series and all are available in my online gallery, here.

New Creation- “Days Past”

A new addition to my paris.rome.and.beyond series, I am pleased to introduce, “Days Past” an aged metallic photograph from Paris.

This photo, hand layered with an original texture made from the “leftovers” of a scanned  piece of Polaroid pull apart film, is overlooking Paris from Notre Dame. The Kodak Endura Metallic Paper that I use to print this brings out the aged look with it’s amazing “chrome like” feel.

The print is available in sizes all the way up to 24×36 and is printed with a small white border for easy matting and framing.  Black Friday through Cyber Monday (ending 11/30 at midnight) all prints are Buy One Get One with free international shipping. Check out my online gallery for details.

Going to a Good Home, “All That Glitters”

Heading off to a new home is one of my favorite prints from my trip to Savannah, Georgia a couple of years back, “All That Glitters.” The photo is a shot of a vintage chandelier as seen through an antique mirror in one of the very beautiful historic homes in Savannah. The house these are in is said to be haunted and I wanted to capture that with the photo, layering it for an aged, vintage feel. I could just picture a beautiful Southern belle many, many years ago, looking in the mirror, getting ready for the grand gala that would be taking place in the grand ballroom just next door to this room. Nervously primping her hair, straightening her dress, and getting ready to dance the night away with her love.

I am so very pleased that this print was purchased in the largest format I offer, 24×36 as while I love any picture, no matter how small, I especially love to see my favorites large and in charge in all their glory. Just last week I shipped off another large format print, of “The Barn” and was so pleased that my buyer absolutely loved it (feel free to check out the feedback here).

This and many other prints can be purchased in all sizes in my online gallery. I absolutely love custom orders whether it be large format prints, gallery wraps or framing so, if you don’t see it, definitely send me a message!

Going to a Good Home, “Smoke”

I’m always toying around with new ways to shoot photos whether it be trying out a different lens, shooting from a different angle or, in this case, trying out a new filter.

“Smoke” is an 8×8 print of a beautiful dark pink bloom that I came across while wondering through Cheekwood Botanical Gardens in Nashville, TN. Doesn’t look pink right? I took this photo with an infrared filter attached to my macro lens. Now, if you look at other examples of infrared photography, this isn’t quite the same, but, regardless, I loved the end result of this photo.

Layered just slightly to give it a textured effect, I love how the flower ended up looking like billowing smoke. I’m still toying with the infrared photography, and plan on offering more as time goes on. In the mean time though, check out “Smoke” in my online gallery, as well as others available.
