Photo of the Day- “Perspective” – May London Find Peace Soon

"Perspective" - Tracey Capone Photography

Today’s Photo of the Day, “Perspective” has new meaning to me as I watch the news coming out of England.

As London and other cities in the country move past their fourth night of violence and Prime Minister David Cameron says that a, “fightback is underway,” I think back to the times that I’ve visited. London, like Chicago, is a city where, whenever I visit, I immediately feel at home. I can only hope that those committing the violent acts can step back and gain the perspective they need to stop the senseless violent acts. Teens and other young adults (the youngest arrested was 11), intent on looting, violence and destruction, are using Sunday night’s police shooting as an excuse to commit these acts and it’s heartbreaking to watch such a wonderful city (and other areas) be destroyed by these kids.

Yesterday I watched this video of men pretending to help a victim up only to steal items from his backpack and send him on his way. Despicable, senseless… and so very sad.

On the other side of the coin though, I have seen so many wonderful stories of people who have taken to the streets, not with weapons, and not intent on wreaking havoc but instead, armed with brooms and bags, ready to take back and clean up their city. It is these people who, to me, represent one of my favorite cities. It is these people who have perspective enough to understand that no matter what the economic and political climate of the country, despite alleged police brutality against one man, no matter what, violence and destruction is not the answer, personal responsibility and civil action is.

To my readers in London and surrounding cities, my thoughts are with you, your families and your wonderful country. Stay safe…

What it Feels Like to be a Girl… A Treasury @Etsy

I’m a dichotomy… sometimes a tomboy, sometimes girlie girl. I think I’ve found a pretty good balance though. Women aren’t actually as hard to understand as men like to think ;) They just need to understand that we’re the sum of all of our parts… some good, some bad, but in the end, it’s what makes us who we are.

Enjoy!

Crimson

It’s getting cooler here in the Land of Wind, how about where you’re at? I’ll admit, I’m one of those crazy people who love the cold weather and, having lived in Tennessee for the last three years, I am so very happy to be back to the crisp, cool Autumns and pending winter. (bring on the snow!) That said though, I am quite certain that some time come February or March, I’ll be feverishly wishing for some warmer weather.

“Crimson,” from the coast of Maine, one of the newest in my gallery, is a photo that reminds me of just such a day. Enjoy!

Going to a Good Home- “Patina”

The latest piece heading off to a good home is “Patina” part of my “Paris, Venice & Beyond” series. This print can also be found as part of the, “Day in Venice” set.

Taken in Venice, along the Grand Canal, the blue door was what caught my eye first. If I owned a really cool, old home, there are a list of must-haves, one of which is an amazing door in a vibrant color. Most of Venice’s homes along the canal not only have amazing colors but also this beautiful patina from being along the water. Color abounds in Venice, not only along the Grand Canal but along the back canals as well. Given my love of color, I can only imagine seeing such beauty on a daily basis.

Let’s try something new… how about a poll?

“Patina” as well as the “Day in Venice” print set can be found here in my online gallery.

Enjoy!

Photo of the Day- “Twilight”

Today’s photo of the day is aptly named, “Twilight,”  shot at dusk from beneath the Eiffel Tower in Paris.

I love how the burst of light from the sunset provides just enough to outline the amazing architecture and detail of the tower and the trees behind it. Aged for a vintage feel, this was one of my favorite evenings in Paris as it was the first day we arrived and, thankfully, the March weather was beautiful.

Find it, as well as many others, in my gallery found here.

Enjoy!

Photo of the Day- “Palazzo”

Today’s photo of the day, “Palazzo” is an abstract shot taken in Florence, Italy.

I find that many European cities have very distinct architecture, specific to that city, which make it easily identifiable without even knowing which city you’re looking at. Florence, and most Italian cities, are no exception. Most of the architecture in Florence seems to be encased mostly in stucco which, if I’m not mistaken, harkens back to the early twentieth century Italian Renaissance where Venetian plaster and stucco were prevalent.

This shot was taken outside of the Accademia, where the statue of David is housed. I love the old, weathered shutters in this shot and how the abstract lines of the buildings draw your eyes down from top left to bottom right. The abstract feel of the shot reminds me a bit of “Line of Sight” previously featured here

This, and many other shots from Italy and my other travels, can be found in my online gallery found here.

Enjoy!

Photo of the Day- “Nubi Pastelli”

Anyone who knows my collection knows that a great majority of my prints are from my travels, Italy especially. Most popular in my gallery are my photos from Venice which, oddly enough, as I was “deathly ill” (my mother, who was with me, would probably beg to differ but that’s how I felt) Venice wasn’t my favorite leg of the multi-city trip.

That said though, even through the haze of a high-grade fever, malaise, and the throngs of tourists along the Grand Canal, I could see there were hidden gems just waiting to be captured. Anyone who asks me about visiting Venice will hear the same response… “Walk down along the Grand Canal for about five minutes and then, go left” (well, come to think of it, it depends on which way you’re coming from… ok, go the opposite direction from the water and explore the back canals)

Walk along the back canals of Venice and you will come across some of the most amazing finds from cafes to beautiful, old homes.

Nubi Pastelli“, named as such for the pastel clouds, is one of those finds for me. Tucked back, with not a soul to be found, the distinct architecture of Venice caught my eye immediately. Aged with vintage actions, I love how the pastel, muted colors play off of one another.

Nubi Pastelli” can be found in multiple sizes in my online gallery found here.

Ciao!

New Creation- “Line of Sight”

My latest offering is called, “Line of Sight,” one of many photos from my trip to Ireland. The shot is taken across the river from the Temple Bar area of Dublin and treated with actions to create a soft pastel, vintage feel. I especially love the abstract feel of the photo.

The print is one of many new offerings in my online gallery. Printed on premium Lustre paper, it’s a fun print  sure to add a cool vintage feel to any room.

New Creation- Mangia- A Fine Art Tryptic

Mangia“, a tryptic of delightful treats from a wonderful bakery I came across during my trip to Venice, Italy is playfully nicknamed, “The Cannoli Tryptic.” Cannolis, pistachio cookies, and streudel, there was, sadly, not enough time to try one of everything in this delightful find along the Grand Canal.

Treated with vintage actions and printed on premium Lustre paper that protects against fingerprints and scratching, the print set would make a fun addition to any kitchen decor. The tryptic can now be found here in my online gallery.
