"The Blue Swallow" - Tracey Capone Photography

There are certain towns along Route 66 where it’s like hitting the jackpot when it comes to fun, retro signs. Tucumcari, New Mexico, where today’s Photo of the Day, “The Blue Swallow,” was shot, was no exception. It was a treasure trove of motel and lounge signs and, in this case, even an awesome vintage car.

If you take the Route 66 tour, unless you are a purest and literally want to take the entire stretch of 66 without any diversions, from my own experience, there are a number of towns you can skip by jumping on Route 40. A note, do not skip Tucumcari. I repeat, do not skip it; you won’t be sorry.
